Amember of the Man ‘O’ war, Olajide Felix, has been arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Lagos.

The suspect was arrested at the weekend by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit.

Until his arrest, the suspect was attached to the taskforce office at Oshodi.

Deputy Supritendent of Police, Mr. Wilson Alaba, who represented the chairman of the agency, confirmed that the paramilitary officer was a member of the enforcement team.

He said that the suspect was assigned along with other members of the taskforce unit to arrest and impounded motorcycles plying restricted routes around Berger area of the state

Alaba disclosed that during the enforcement operation embarked upon by the team, a total of about 95 motorcycles were impounded and taken to the office.

“It was after we got to our office and re-counted the impounded motorcycles that we discovered that one was missing. After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that Olajide Felix, a paramilitary officer (Man ‘O’ War) attached with agency was the one who stole the missing motorcycle”, he said

Alaba noted that the Lagos state government had paid huge allowances to every member of the agency to cater for their needs, wondering why the suspect would still indulged in crime.

The suspect, who admitted to stealing the impounded motorcycle in his confessional statement, said: “Yes, I stole a motorcycle (Boxer Bajaj) with registration No AYE 441 QC out of the 95 motorcycles impounded during an enforcement operation at Berger. I have been using it for commercial purposes before I was arrested with it.”

The 31-year-old Felix who hails from ‘Oro’ in Kwara State, blamed the devil for what he did.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Lateef Owolabi of the Lagos State Mobile Court at Oshodi has granted bail to the suspect.

He was granted N30,000 bail with 2 sureties after he pleaded ‘guilty’ to the one count charged of stealing an impounded motorcycle.

Magistrate Lateef Owolabi adjourned the case till August 30, 2017, but said the two sureties must be a blood relations with a proof of evidence of a three years tax clearance. The new intakes into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) College of Security Management have been warned to steer clear from students’ unionism and other social vices during their programme in the school.

The College Provost, Commandant Rachael Oluwafunmi Awosusi, gave this warning at the matriculation ceremony of the maiden students in Abeokuta at the weekend.

She said such involvement, if discovered, would be met with stiff sanctions by the college management.

She emphasized that the ceremony was significant in several ways among which is that “it marks the new phase of relationship between the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and the University of Lagos.

“I want to use this medium to congratulate you for being the multi few offered admission into acquiring Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Security Operations and Management. I want to say that here, there is no unionism and any other social vices, like cultism. It is a professional centre and we must be seen and act as such. Any student caught in any of these would be sanctioned appropriately,” Awosusi said.

The NSCDC Commandant General (CG), Abdullahi Gana Muhammad, represented by the Assistant Commandant General (ACG), Bamidele Popoola, said the college programmes would assist security personnel in private and public sectors to acquire adequate skills and knowledge which would improve the quality, efficiency, effectiveness of the security service for today’s dynamic environment.
