Shiroro communities get 8 motorized boreholes
North South Power Company says it has completed the drilling of eight motorized boreholes in communities hosting the Shiroro hydroelectric dam as part of its social responsibility.
SHPS took over the 600 megawatts capacity station on Nov. 1, 2013, under a 30 years concession agreement with the Federal Government to generate power for public consumption.
Malam Hassan Abdullahi, Consultant on Cooperate Social Responsibility, who represented, the SHPS Executive Vice Chairman, Dr Olubunmi Peters, at stakeholders’ awareness forum at the dam site, said the boreholes were among the many efforts aimed at lifting the standard of living of the people of the area.
The benefiting communities, according to him, were Lambu, Dnabo, Eddah, Awasha, Gbegbetuko, Zhiwi, Kadna and Guni.
“The company values the partnership built with the community around it and has been involved in several Community Social Responsibility activities and maintains a cordial relationship with the community and its leaders,” he said.
He appealed to the host communities to continue to be peaceful, law-abiding in their dealings with company.
Also, the district head of Kuta-Gabas, Malam Garba Bala, commended the Company for its various intervention programmes in the host communities and assured the management of the readiness of the people to cooperate with it.
The district head also urged the management of the company to empower local contractors within the host communities by giving them jobs to enable them meet their basic needs.
