Customs impounds 64 cars valued at N1.528bn in Lagos, Ogun

Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, have impounded a total of 64 brand new exotic cars allegedly smuggled into the country by criminals.

The cars whose value was put at over N1.528,200 billion were seized within a space of three weeks in Lagos and Ogun states.

Three weeks ago operatives from the FOU arrested about 37 exotic vehicles valued at about N1.3 billion.

Not resting on their oars, the operatives again stormed some border communitie­s in Lagos and Ogun states where they impounded another 27 exotic cars that were allegedly smuggled into country my criminals.

The value of the recent seizure is put at about N228.215 million.

The recent seizure brings to about 64 such Sport Utility Vehicles so far impounded by the operatives within three weeks.

Briefing newsmen on the recent seizure, the Controller, FOU Zone A, Comptrolle­r Mohammed Uba Garba, disclosed that the vehicles were recovered from auto stands in Lagos and Ogun States respective­ly.

He also disclosed that the seizures were made after days of painstakin­g and discrete investigat­ion by operatives from the unit. The Acting Director General of the National Institute For Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos Plateau State, Jonathan Mela Juma, has commended Daily Trust Newspaper for its giant and impressive strides in contributi­ng to the nation’s economy in very special ways.

Juma spoke when the newspaper’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr Abhey Desai, the Associate Director of Business and Strategy, Aliu Akoshile, the Regional Manager of Jos Office, Danjuma Isa Oboni and Senior Advert Executive, Florence Oketona, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

In his remarks, the COO said the company was expanding and that it was in the process of acquiring a television and radio license.
