The Managing Director of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Engr. Ernest Mupwaya, has said employees are the greatest assists of the firm.

Mupwaya stated this last weekend shortly before signing the Conditions of Service and Procedural Agreement with the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) at the AEDC headquarters in Abuja.

He reiterated AEDC’s commitment to accommodating the contributions of its staff to sustain the harmonious working relationship needed in the company’s transformation process.

Responding, the General Secretary of NUEE and President of United Labour Congress (ULC), Comrade Joe Ajaero commended the AEDC management on staff welfare. He however called for more action to improve the welfare of the Distribution Company (DisCo) employees.

President of SSAEAC, Engr Chris Okonkwo, also commended AEDC saying it was the second out of the 11 DisCos to ratify such agreement. He urged the DisCo to ensure that the terms and conditions of the signed agreement are implemented promptly.

Meanwhile AEDC has called for the retraction of a report that it was joining issues with the Minister of Power, Works and Housing on its grid allocation.

The spokesman, Ahmed Shekarau, in a statement yesterday said AEDC gets 11.5 per cent of electricity allocated to it for distribution nationwide, and that it never received up to 600 megawatts (mw) of power from the grid between June and July, 2017.

Mr Shekarau said: “For instance, AEDC’s highest allocation from the grid in June, 2017 was 473.49mw, while the highest in July so far is 492.87mw,” it noted.
