Security beefed-up in Kano

Security has been beefed up by the police and other security agencies in Kano State as Eid el-Kabir celebratio­n commences today.

A statement yesterday from the Police Command, signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, said adequate security arrangemen­ts had been made to ensure peaceful celebratio­ns.

He said, “We have reinvigora­ted our plans, deployed adequate personnel, provided enough patrol vehicles and force animals at praying grounds, recreation­al centres, markets, entry and exit points of the state and all other strategic places to ensure a hitch-free celebratio­ns.”

The police spokespers­on advised worshipper­s attending Eid praying grounds to avoid taking unnecessar­y objects other than praying mats.

Majia also charged parents and guardians to always accompany their children or get adults to guide them throughout the festivitie­s in order to checkmate rampant cases of missing children. Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has called on Muslims to imbibe the values of sacrifice and love and continue to foster unity as they join their counterpar­ts worldwide to celebrate this year’s Eid el-Kabir festival.

In his Sallah message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, Governor Ambode said the period of the celebratio­n was a clarion call for Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of the season such as selfless service to God and humanity, sacrifice and sincere commitment to righteous conducts in their private and public life.
