Fashion enthusiasts were thrilled by designs showcased on the runway by some young designers in Abuja last weekend.

The Fashion Show which was organised by The Fashion Academy (TFA) was also to mark the opening of the academy’s new flagship store at the Kado Mall, Abuja.

The brain behind TFA, Mrs Nina Yusuf-Kwande said the whole event was geared towards showcasing the works of some young fashion designers trained by the academy.

“Today, we are showcasing some of our young designers. The whole idea is to encourage them and give them a taste of what a fashion show is like while we are opening the academy in a new location. The Fashion Academy was in Gwarimpa but now moved to Kado Mall to make us more accessible. I believe we will see greater things from these young designers in the near future,” she said.

One of the designers with the label, The Ladybird, Rebecca Garba said this is the first time her wears were showcased on the runway by models and it was all thanks to the fashion academy.

“My collection actually showcases the Ankara fabrics. We showcase African prints in different materials like in satin, in normal cotton and more. My collection is basically to celebrate the African identity and to tell the world that we are proud of it.”

Other designers were BIBI collections whose work is a combination of African print and Street style for teenagers and young adults.

Also, Motapwa collections showcased fashionable high-street jumpsuits while Sheebah by Bilikisu’s collection, called Arabian Night was inspired by Middle Eastern cultural attire, Abaya.

Also, the Bodyy collection by Adanma also showcased unique pieces in African Prints and colours.
