ADP crisis deepens as party officials suspended

- From Hassan Ibrahim, Lafia

The Expanded Executive Committee of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), comprising the state exco, state working committee, caucus and party elders in Nasarawa State, has affirmed Senator Yusuf Nagogo as the state chairman.

This is contained in a statement signed by the party’s zonal chairman in charge of southern zone, Osuza Osumanyi and Phillip Adams, Assistant State Secretary and made available to newsmen shortly after a meeting held yesterday in Lafia.

The statement described the recent vote of no confidence passed on the chairman by some members of the party as a nullity since only the chairman could convene such meeting as stipulated in the party’s constitution.

The meeting also announced the suspension of four members of the state working committee.

“That the state Deputy Chairman, Yusuf Ishaku, Secretary, Yahaya Awe, Youth Leader, Abubakar Ogidi and the Public Relations Officer, Patrick Ajigwara are respectively suspended from the party for serious acts of breach of the ADP constitution,” the statement said.

The expanded meeting also announced that the suspended members would be replaced by Malam Umaru Gazuwa, Interim Secretary; Malam Muhammad Gamji, Youth Leader and Mr Isyaka Maijeni, Publicity Secretary.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Nagogo, said he was relieved since all issues concerning his status in the party have been resolved.

It would be recalled that about 20 members of the party led by the party Vice Chairman, Yusuf Ishaku, held a meeting on August 25 and accused Nagogo of engaging in activities against the party’s interest. They passed a vote of no confidence on him.
