Hoodlums vandalise ATM in Life Camp

- By Taiwo Adeniyi

Suspected robbers have vandalised an Automated Teller Machine inside EFAB Estate, Life Camp.

Some residents said the ATM was vandalised on Friday morning while the guard at the ATM point was tied up.

A resident who sought anonymity said the robbers attacked the supermarket where the ATM was located inside the estate before they broke into the machine’s vault but could not say if they succeeded in making away with any money.

“Some people said the machine was loaded by the bank the evening before the attack because of the holidays while others said the machine had stopped paying before the attack,” he said.

The Life Camp Divisional Police Officer, CSP Danlami Yusuf, confirmed the incident.

“I personally visited the place with the representative of the bank and we removed the CCTV. We have also interrogated the security man who was tied up by the hoodlums,” he said.

He said the police were alerted at about 4a.m, on Friday after the suspected robbers had left the scene.

“Police officers untied the security man and he said the machine stopped dispensing money before the attack. Maybe the money had been exhausted,” he said.

“We are trying to review the CCTV tape and we are still waiting for the bank to come up with their report. No arrest has been made so far but we are still on their trail with the information available from the estate management,” he added.
