approval of the house. We have approved over N100 billion loan to the state government and between now and next year, if nothing is done, Sokoto will not be able to pay salaries,” he said.
“The speaker has made himself a stooge of the executive,” he added, and asserted further that, “I, together with 10 other members, have disassociated ourselves from the impeachment, I have vowed to challenge it,” he said.
Following the fracas, a delegation from the impeached deputy leader’s constituency, Kware, led by the local government chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Zamau, paid a visit to the APC state chairman, Alhaji Suleiman Danmadami, during which they presented a letter in support of the decision taken by the assembly.
They also expressed solidarity and loyalty to Governor Tambuwal’s administration.
In his response, the APC chairman was unequivocal in condemning the embattled lawmaker, saying the decision was in line with the constitution of the party.
He added that Ibrahim violated the party’s rules and regulations, and reminded members that the constitution of the party provided that an incumbent governor should be leader of the party in his state and should be supported by all members of the party.
Danmadami stressed that the party would not condone any act of destabilisation within the party and harped on the need for members to continue to work in line with the party’s constitution.
Pundits observe that the unprecedented rift among Sokoto APC members in the legislative arm of government may worsen division in the party if not redressed, noting that internal disagreements, which may have been masked over time, have now emerged openly and brazenly.
