2019: APC chair backs zoning gov’ship to Nasarawa North
The North Central Zonal Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Zakari Edde, has said that he supports the zoning of the party’s gubernatorial seat to Nasarawa North senatorial district.
Edde, who said this in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area (LGA), said his support for the zoning of the 2019 APC gubernatorial seat stems from the philosophy of equity and fairness.
He said since the advent of democracy, the people of Nasarawa North were still yet to occupy the governorship seat.
Daily Trust recalls that the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had on August 26, 2017 zoned its governorship ticket for the 2019 general elections to the North senatorial district which has never produced a governor since the state was created.
“As a political stakeholder in the country and the state, in my personal opinion, I want and will support the zoning of the 2019 gubernatorial slot to Nasarawa North senatorial district. Nasarawa West through Senator Abdullahi Adamu has enjoyed the governorship for eight years.
“Nasarawa South has also been there for more than eight years. So, it is only fair and commonsensical that Nasarawa North should be granted the opportunity to produce the next governor come 2019. We must be our brothers’ keepers,” he said.
Ede explained that allowing Nasarawa North senatorial district, comprising of Akwanga, Wamba and Nassarawa-Eggon local governments to produce the next governor would foster togetherness and equity among the people of the state.
“I am happy to say that our governor, Alhaji Umar Al-Makura, has always made it clear in different fora that for there to be equity in the state, it is wise and necessary for Nasarawa North to also produce a governor for the state. I will be shocked if it goes elsewhere in 2019,” he added.
Edde congratulated the PDP in the state for having the guts to zone the party’s 2019 gubernatorial slot to Nasarawa North senatorial district despite the possibility of the party having members of other districts who may also vie for the position.
“I must congratulate our counterparts, the PDP, for zoning the governorship to Nasarawa North. This is politics and democracy in action and whoever does anything good, I will not shy away from praising such person or people.
“It is not my party but I like what they did. I am also calling on my party to emulate what the PDP has done. We want to conduct our affairs in such a way that people will be happy and proud of us. It is only fair if Nasarawa North is allowed to produce our next governor,” he also said.
