CSOs petition Buhari over Anambra APC primaries

- By Muideen Olaniyi

A coalition of Civil Society Groups (CCSG) has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, the Department of State Security Services (DSS) and the Inspector General of Police over allegations of irregularities that allegedly marred the Anambra APC primary elections.

In separate statements signed by the National President of CCSG, Etuk Bassey Williams, and the Anambra State Coordinator of CCSG, Dr Emeka Nwaofor, the group said that they decided to undertake critical observation of elections to prevent the mistakes of the past, as corruption in preelection horse-trading has led some states to bankruptcy.

According to the petition sent to the President and copied to security agencies, “There was fundamental observation on the issues of delegate swap which reflects the highest level of electoral fraud as funds was used.

“It is shameful that the 2013 delegate list was approved for the election when most of the names have decamped and some dead; but in the bid to further their heinous plans, they went ahead to adopt a 4000 delegates list that they claimed was intact which however led to the flooding of the primary with APGA imposters recruited as delegates of APC, a party that encourages credible elections.”

The group called on President Buhari, the leadership of APC and the security agencies to set-up a panel of inquiry to look into the matter and address the malpractices recorded at the primary election.
