Wikki Tourists win 1-0 to delay Plateau Utd’s celebratio­n

Plateau United’s celebratio­n party was delayed after they were beaten 1-0 by neighbours Wikki Tourists in yesterday’s week 37 match decided at the Tafawa Balewa stadium Bauchi.

Chinedu Onyelonu scored from the spot in the 62nd minute to hand Wikki Tourists the maximum points and will be hoping to win their last match against Gombe United to escape from the impending relegation.

It was indeed a weekend of penalties as most of the fixtures were won from the spot. In Enugu penalties decided the oriental derby between Rangers and Enyimba FC.

While Ikechukwu Ibenegbu scored from the spot in the 22nd minute, Chibuzor Madu converted his penalty in the 87th minute to level scores for Enyimba.

Katsina United benefitted from two penalties to beat Remo Stars 3-0 just as two penalties in Port-Harcourt helped Rivers United win 3-0 against Gombe United.

Rivers United’s Bernard Ovoke scored a brace from the spot before Bolaji Sakin made it three with a pile driver in the 90th minute.

The encounter between Lobi Stars and Niger Tornadoes was also decided from the spot when joint highest goal scorer Anthony Okpotu scored his team’s penalty in the 56th minute.

Okpotu is now has 18 goals same as Stephen Odey who recently moved abroad to join Grasshoppe­rs in Zurich.

At the Agege township stadium, MFM recorded a convincing 2-0 victory over Nasarawa United to take their points to 62, one point behind leaders Plateau United.

It was a harvest of goals for Sunshine Stars who beat FC IfeanyiUba­h 4-0 in IjebuOde, Kano Pillars defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 in Kano, ABS won 2-1 over Abia Warriors just as 3SC helped their relegation fight with a 1-0 victory over Akwa United.

With yesterday’s results, the league is going to end in photo-finish as only a point now separates Plateau United from MFM.

While Plateau United will end the season at home against defending champions Rangers, MFM will be away at El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri.
