Skipper Mikel John Obi was in buoyant spirit as the Super Eagles arrived Yaounde on Sunday afternoon for Monday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

“We are just very keen to finish what we started. We started a job in Uyo and it is time to finish it. If we can pick the World Cup ticket by Monday, why wait any longer?

“We are all very confident, because we know our ability and what we are ready to bring to the party.”

Nigeria achieved her highest win ever

Mover Cameroon with the massive thumping of the Lions on Friday, and Mikel is aware the wounded Lions will want to salvage some pride.

“We are as hungry, perhaps even more hungry than they are. It will be a tough affair but we will give our very best to take the three points.”

Nigeria could become the first African team to earn a slot in Russia as early as Tuesday (next 48 hours) if they defeat the Cameroonians on Monday in Yaounde and Zambia fail to beat Algeria at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida on Tuesday. FM yesterday boosted their chance of winning this year’s NPFL title with an emphatic 2-0 victory over visiting Nasarawa United at the Agege township stadium.

Goals from Stanley Okorom who converted a spot kick in the 13 minutes after Olatunbosun Sikiru was upended and Tschato Giscard who doubled the lead towards the end of the half handed victory to the home side.

With the victory, the ‘Olukoya boys’ are now a point behind leaders Plateau United who are topping the table with 63 points despite their 0-1 loss at Wikki Tourists.

Speaking after the match, MFM coach Fidelis Ilechukwu who spoke confidently about their continental ambition said the victory was pivotal for them.

“It was a great team and great game but in the second half, there was a big drop from my team which I think we really need to work on. The important thing for us is the three points.

“MFM team is a team that people don’t believe but I have give kudos to my boys,” he said.

About the transfer of Stephen Odey to FC Zurich, he assured that he will breed players that will fit into Odey’s shoes.

“What is my job? We made Stephen Odey, so many other players are waiting. The same way we made them, we will make so many players. So I believe so many players are waiting on standby,” he stressed.
