CITY NEWS Ona of Abaji sets up c’ttee on proposed Abuja Tech University
The Ona of Abaji and chairman of FCT Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, has set up a 16-member committee over the proposed Abuja University of Technology (AUTA) .
Yunusa, while announcing the committee members after he received traditional rulers and title holders and other stakeholders of the area at his palace, said the committee, which he is going to chair, was to meet with the FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, to discuss how to expedite action for the take off the university.
He said the palace and stakeholders were quite disturbed over the delay by the Federal Government and Senate in giving approval for the takeoff of the university so that the natives would be able to access admission into the institution.
He added that the quick takeoff of the university would also create both casual and permanent jobs for the teaming unemployed youth and women in the area, and urged the committee to sit up and fine-tune steps to be taken before reaching the minster.
The traditional ruler also frowned at some sons of the area who were conferred with traditional titles, but were not contributing to the development of the palace.
He called on parents to sponsor their children to acquire education, saying education was the bedrock of development of any society.
The Ona of Abaji also called on the youth to engage in skill acquisition where they would learn various kinds of hand work, instead of waiting for white collar jobs.
He also enjoined residents to continue to live in peace with each other irrespective of ethnic and religious affiliations.
The former secretary of Local Education Authority (LEA) of the council, Dr. Hassan Suleiman, is the secretary of the committee.
