Katsina APC, PDP take battle to social media

- From Habibu Umar Aminu, Katsina

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State have re-launched massive social media campaigns purportedly to woo supporters.

Daily Trust observed that there has been increased politicking by both parties, using different names in a move to woo the young ones ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Every day, facebook, whatsapp, and twitter accounts of the two parties are doling out criticisms, commendations and achievements of their respective parties in a move to draw attention.

During the Sallah break, the PDP social media forum held a programme where members were sensitised and new officials inaugurated and posted to various councils to serve as coordinators.

Speaking at the occasion, the PDP state chairman, Salisu Majigiri, commended the forum which, he said, would serve as a hub for interaction and cross fertilisation of ideas for the growth and development of the party.

For the APC government, the creation of the office of a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to handle social media-related issues is a clear indication of its readiness to follow the latest trend. This is first time such office was established in the state.

The SSA, Abdulhadi Bawa, is being assisted by three others, handling each senatorial zone. Two other persons attached to his office posted updated events on the governor and government activities. They also replied critics as well as the opposition PDP.

Also, the APC has got its social media organ, which is presently been re-jigged ahead of 2019.
