We resist offer to buy Anambra gov’ship ticket - NGP

- By Muideen Olaniyi

The National Chairman of New Generation Party of Nigeria (NGP), Dr. Yakubu Shendam, says the party will not field any candidate for the November 18, 2018 governorship election in Anambra State.

Shendam, however, said that the exco of the party would decide the possibility of endorsing a candidate for the election.

Dr. Shendam, said in a statement signed by the NGP National Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Abdu, that the party would concentrate on consolidating on its structures across the country, being one of the newly registered political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said the measure was aimed at achieving its goal of taking over government at the centre and states to rescue the nation from the clutches of maladministration.

The NGP national chairman, who spoke in Awka, the Anambra State capital, stated that the NGP is a movement for a generational shift and as such must strive to do things differently.

He said the party has resisted requests by candidates, who failed primaries in other political parties, to give them its ticket, saying if it did, it would be following the path of other political parties that have failed the electorate.

He said the NGP was focused and would not follow the general trend of just appearing on the ballot papers for no justification.

“The most important thing for our party is to build solid structure across Nigeria to take over in 2019. Our party is just about three months old. So, filing a candidate to us is just a waste of logistics. Therefore, we prefer to build structures here in Anambra.

“Some persons approached us quite alright to issue them ticket for money, but we declined because NGP is not for sale. You can’t fail primary election from other parties and suddenly run to NGP for ticket, that shows you have no ideology and we need people who believe in Ndi Anambra not people who just want to answer excellency,” Shendam also said.

The chairman, who charged party members to embark on aggressive drive to bring on board like minds who are yearning for generational shift to the NGP, called on party faithful in the state to remain steadfast.
