Gwagwalada residents call for urgent repair of bad roads

-

Some residents of Gwagwalada Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have called on the council’s chairman to urgently repair the many bad roads in the council.

The residents, who made the call in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Gwagwalada said many roads in the area were not passable and needed urgent attention.

Mrs Funke Adebayo, a medical doctor said the poor state of roads in the area contributed majorly to accidents, adding that the roads were in a state of utter disrepair.

She appealed to the chairman of the council, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, to come to the aid of the residents.

“The chairman should proffer solution to the bad roads in the council; several cars are damaged on daily basis as a result of the bad roads.

“The roads are even worst now that the rain is much. The roads need to be put in good shape for the benefit of the electorate,’’ she said.

Mr Bello Mohammed, a resident of Old Kutunku said good roads as basic infrastructure were not being enjoyed in Gwagwalada as all the roads were deplorable.

“I cannot continue spending all my salary on car repairs. I have resolved to join public transport until after the rainy season when the roads will be manageable,’’ he said.

Mrs Comfort Odega, a business woman, said the bad roads also contributed to high cost of some commodities, especially perishable goods.

She said as a result of the bad roads, she paid more to take her goods to the market and that some of the goods got spoilt before getting to the market.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gwagwalada Area Council, Mr Usman Babalado, said that the council had commenced the rehabilitation of some roads.

“We are one year and three months in office, when we came into office we met the condition of dilapidated roads in the council area.

“When we came on board, we were able to complete and commission the one-way road leading to the market.” (NAN)
