- From Victor Edozie, Port Harcourt

A Coalition of Niger Delta agitators said it has withdrawn the quit notice given to the northerners and South West people residing in the region to vacate before October 1 this year.

The coalition also said it has withdrawn its threat to declare Niger Delta Republic on the same date.

The militants similarly said they have suspended the September 10 date for the resumption of attacks on oil installations and other facilities in the Niger Delta.

Also, the groups have pledged support for the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and Nigeria Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Forum (NENYLF), led by the Acting National Chairman, Imoh Okoko.

The coalition comprising over 250 militant groups in the Niger Delta region,

took the decision yesterday evening after series of meetings between the “high command” of the Coalition led by General John Duku and the leadership of NENYLF, coupled with the intervention of PANDEF, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Their resolutions were contained in a statement signed by General John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs) and Convener, Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators; General Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers), among other group leaders.

The coalition stated: “We have also resolved to work with PANDEF and give them our maximum support and we urge the federal government to continue dialogue and implement the 16-point demand presented by PANDEF on behalf of the Niger Delta region.

“This came after an extensive consultation across the Niger Delta region, which we discover that it is only PANDEF that has been working round the clock to resolve the Niger Delta issues and have the people of proven integrity.
