FG still battling to recover Abacha loot – AGF
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has declared that the Federal Government is still battling with the processes for the recovery of the funds looted by former Head of State, Sani Abacha.
Malami stated this in an address to the 35th Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime at the Jesus College, University of Cambridge, UK.
In the address made available by his spokesman, Othman Salihu Isah yesterday, Malami solicited for greater collaboration and cooperation with authorities and jurisdictions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates to prevent the situation.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari administration is more decisive the in tackling issues of crime and corruption in the public and private sectors of the economy, adding that the government inaugurated the Presidential Commitment to fight corruption at the London Summit in May 2016, which led to Nigeria signing the International Open Government Partnership (OGP) to enable the deepening of reforms across government, civil society and private sector institutions
He also identified other achievements as the “effective implementation of preventive anti-corruption policies such as the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the Bank Verification Number (BVN), the Code of Conduct for Public Officers and the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) Whilst the former government introduced some of these policies, the current government, has nevertheless given life to them through the ‘Political Will’ to follow-through.”
