New JAMB policy has jettisoned rigidity in admission – Rector

- From Ahmed Tahir Ajobe, Minna

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)’s new admission policy has been hailed as capable of affording prospective candidates multiple choices of which institutions to seek admission.

Speaking with journalists yesterday, the Rector of the Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, Dr. Umar Ahmed Egbako said candidates who cannot meet the cut-off points in a particular institution could do so in other schools with less cut-off points.

He observed that the new policy has eliminated the existing rigidity, which hitherto frustrated prospective candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions across the country.

“With the flexibility, if a candidate cannot meet up here, he or she could seek for alternative elsewhere,” he stated, even as he urged polytechnics to utilize the opportunity provided by the new window by attracting inflow of students seeking admission.

From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

THE South East Governors’ Forum has distanced itself from the rumour making the rounds that the body met behind closed door where they accused the federal government of killing members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and other issues.

They were reacting to a report credited to one Comrade Nwankpa Osita Okere alleging that the forum met in Abakaliki where they accused the federal government of brutality on Ndigbo. The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi described the report as tissues of lie from the pit of hell.

Umahi who condemned allegation through further the his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor said the report was craftily done to embarrass the forum and cause confusion between the governors of the zone and the federal government and to thwart her peace process with the IPOB.

He said that the forum was working in synergy with the federal government and other federating units towards economic and regional integration and development of the South East region and called on members of the public to disregard every attempt by amorphous groups to instigate crisis between the zone and the federal government.
