Kano clash: Kwankwasiyya members take case to PSC again

- By Muideen Olaniyi

Adelegation of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Kwankwasiyya members from Kano State led by Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi yesterday submitted a fresh petition to the Police Service Commission (PSC) over the recent clash with the supporters of Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation after the submission of the complaint, the former commission for state affairs, Aminu Abdulsalam, said the alleged role played by the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Rabiu Yusuf, in the clash which occurred last Saturday during the Sallah celebration must be investigated by the PSC.

He said the police commissioner appeared to be doing the bidding of Governor Ganduje with the alleged decision of police to teargas the members of the Kwankwasiyya APC support group who appeared in red and white attires at the durbar.

He claimed that the police commissioner refused to meet them when they made efforts to speak with him.

“We want you (PSC) to look at our complaints dispassionately. We want PSC to investigate this which is more serious than the first one. We came here to seek justice. We are physically assaulted. Our people sustained various degrees of injuries.

“We have been very peaceful. We have inculcated peace among our members. We will not allow violence. But this has a limit.

“We have launched this complaint because we don’t want a situation whereby we have to defend ourselves. We have physical and numerical strength to defend ourselves. But we are just restraining ourselves. Already, the police commissioner has earned for himself the nickname of chairman of Kwankwasiyya faction.”

In his reaction, the PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, said the commission had received the report and assured that the Justice Olufunmilola Adekeyeled Public Complaints Committee on Police Action would complete its investigation into the case and ensure that justice is done.

Ani, who spoke on behalf of the committee, said the committee had earlier sat on the first complaint launched on August 28, 2016 and did some preliminary investigation.

He expressed the happiness of the commission on their decision to remain on the side of the law by launching another complaint.
