Kaduna DisCo blames TCN for 152 outages, denies rejecting power
Kaduna Electric has denied rejecting electricity load for its customers just as it blamed the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for 152 requested outages in August.
The spokesman of the firm, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, in a statement said the Distribution Company (DisCo) has in many instances lately, surpassed its allocation which raised its energy cost to satisfy its customers across Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states.
“With exception of the last two months, the monthly invoice submitted by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET) has consistently shown that our Company is taking much more than its allocation. It therefore does not appeal to logic and verifiable fact to list Kaduna Electric among the DisCos rejecting load,” he said.
The DisCo, who attributed the report on load rejection to TCN, blamed it for intermittent interruption of electricity in its operational area saying it lost 638.2 megawatts (mw) in August from 152 cases of TCN’s ‘requested outages’.
“While it is not in our tradition to engage in blame game, it suffice to say that in the month of August alone, TCN demanded that we dropped load on emergency on 152 different occasions which resulted in the loss of 653.2 megawatts.”
He called for better synergy among stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, stressing that each participant must learn to collaborate with, and provide satisfactory services to its customers.
