Nobody aided my escape in Rivers – Suspected ritualist

- From Victor Edozie, Port Harcourt

A suspected ritualist, Ifeanyi Dike, yesterday absolved the Rivers State Police Command of any complicity in his escape from custody.

Dike was arrested and detained at Rivers State CID for killing and cutting off vital organs of little Chikamso Favour in Port Harcourt couple of weeks ago.

But less than 24 hours after his arrest, he escaped from prison custody, leaving the state police command rattled.

His escape also led to the arrest and subsequent dismissal of Inspector Johnbosco, who was taking custody of the suspect.

But luck ran out of Dike when he was rearrested in Jos, Plateau State. He was paraded yesterday before journalists in Port Harcourt. The suspected ritualist said nobody aided his escape, adding that he ran away when he was asked to return to his cell.

“Nobody aided my escape from police custody. After taking my statement I was asked to go back to the cell. It was at that point that I escaped,” Dike stated.

Earlier in a press briefing, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Almed Zaki, said the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, was pleased with the re-arrest of the suspect and vowed that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on the suspect or any other persons implicated in the course of further investigation.
