3 nabbed for diverting relief materials

- From Hope Abah, Makurdi

The Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu yesterday disclosed that three people have been apprehended at the Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) camp in Makurdi for diverting relief materials.

Abounu made the disclosure while answering questions from newsmen shortly after he supervised the distribution of relief items to the flood affected 21 local government areas in the state.

“I got report that on Tuesday somebody removed about fifty bulbs and two bags of rice and then threw them over the fence to two of his friends who were waiting for him outside, but thank God the three of them were apprehended,” he said.

The deputy governor who is the chairman of Flood Relief Committee, added that those people apprehended were victims taking refuge at the camp but he has directed camp officials to decamp them.

He assured that all stakeholders were represented in the camp and his committee was ensuring that the relief items were monitored for equitable distribution to those truly displaced.
