Res­i­dent doc­tors sus­pend strike

The Na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion of Res­i­dent Doc­tors (NARD) has sus­pended the strike ac­tion it em­barked upon 10 days ago and asked doc­tors to re­sume work from 8am to­day.

The pres­i­dent of the as­so­ci­a­tionIn, Dr Onye­bueze John, said this fol­lowed due con­sid­er­a­tion of ef­forts by gov­ern­ment and progress made in ad­dress­ing the items on the no­tice of their ul­ti­ma­tum, as well as im­ple­men­ta­toin of the con­tents of the re-ne­go­ti­ated mem­o­ran­dum of set­tle­ment.

In an sms by the doc­tors, which was for­warded to news­men by Min­is­ter of Labour and Em­ploy­ment Chris Ngige early hours of Thurs­day, the doc­tors said they re­solved to sus­pend the strike and to re­assess sit­u­a­tion in two weeks at its an­nual gen­eral meet­ing in Abuja.

The doc­tors’ sus­pen­sion of ac­tion is com­ing just as the joint health sec­tor unions have given a no­tice to be­gin in­def­i­nite strike on Wed­nes­day next week. 15th
