Kano, Lagos set for joint economic summit

Kano and Lagos state government­s have concluded arrangemen­ts to conduct a joint economic summit with a view to boosting their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) drives.

The Chairman of Kano State Economic Summit Committee, Dr Shamsuddee­n Usman, made the disclosure yesterday when he led Lagos State’s delegation to the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll on a courtesy call.

Shamsuddee­n told the emir that several meetings were held in the past between the two states on how to conduct a successful join economic summit.

He said the two states had common features to share to boost their economies, noting that the joint summit would benefit the two states.

On his part, leader of the Lagos State delegation and Commission­er of Economic, Budget and Planning, Akinyemi Ashade, said Lagos and Kano states had lots of economic experience­s to share to boost their economies.

Ashade said the two states would share experience­s in the areas of structure and waste management, noting that Lagos had succeeded in boosting its economy by converting waste to wealth.

Responding, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll, called on the 36 states of the federation to map out strategies that would boost their economies.

“It is high time for state government­s to stop relaying on the Federal Government. Many cities in the developed countries have gone far in terms of the economy.”
