A coalition of concerned Nigerians have concluded plans to organise #Mad4Naija Unity Carnival as an avenue to promote peaceful co-existence and inspire young people to contribute to the development and growth of Nigeria.

The organisers described the carnival as a collective response to addressing acts of violence, hate speeches and calls for division among various quarters in the country.

The carnival according to a statement jointly signed by the group’s organising committee members, Aisha Waziri Umar and Bright Jaja is also intended to commemorate the United Nations International Day of Peace themed, “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

“The event is scheduled to take place on the 23rd of September 2017, at the Eagle Square, Abuja aimed at promoting peace and unity in Nigeria, regardless of diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, culture and religion,” the statement read.

They said the carnival would be a platform to build bridges across the nation and a display of the diversity and enormous power innate in Nigerians.

The organisers said the carnival would include cultural and artistic performances representing various ethnic groups and tribes adding that the event is designed to use culture and entertainment as a catalyst for unity, peace and economic prosperity.
