Jos skirmishes: Jasawa appeal against reprisal as govt relaxes curfew
Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has relaxed the dusk to dawn curfew imposed on Jos and Bukuru metropolis of the state following last Thursday’s skirmishes. The curfew is now 10pm - 6am.
A statement issued yesterday by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Samuel Emmanuel Nanle, said the review was based on the improved state of security and assured citizens that security personnel would continue to patrol flash points within the Greater Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
Meanwhile, the Jasawa Community Development Association has called for calm following the disturbances of last Thursday believed to have resulted from violence allegedly caused in some places in the southern part of the country by members of the now proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The association appealed for forgiveness and a culture of peaceful coexistence among the Plateau State citizens irrespective of tribe and religion.
The association, in a statement signed by its President, Shehu Ibrahim Masalla, said, “The violent agitation by Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB led to killing of some innocent people and has escalated apprehension across some states in the North, yet such action does not call for any act of reprisal with us here.”
Jasawa called on the youths to be seen as the vanguard of peace projects, rather than the path that would thwart the course of peace.
