Police kill 2 kidnappers, recover N1.1m ransom in Niger

Niger State Police Command says it has killed two kidnappers in Rafi Local Government Area of the state in a recent operation.

A statement by the command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Babalola Adewole, yesterday said the sum of N1.1m out of the N2m the suspects earlier collected from their victim was recovered.

He said that one Bashir Alhaji Nadarare of Karaya village in Rafi local government was kidnapped on 4th of July 2017 by the hoodlums and released on 12th September 2017 after they collected a ransom of N2 million.

“On 13/09/2017 the gunmen were sighted around Rima hills, Kagara, and a team of police detectives attached to Kagara Division mobilized and raided the hideout. The hoodlums engaged the police in gun duel which lasted hours, in which two of the hoodlums were fatally injured,” he said.

He also said other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds and called on all hospitals within the area to report cases of bullet wounds to the police.

DSP Adewole said two AK 47 rifles and 20 rounds of ammunition were also recovered during the operation.

The command said its men also arrested two persons in connection with the murder of one Terna Cletus in Tarfa local government. He said the suspects were students of Durben Polytechni­c in Garam but resident in Azeh Garam village.

He also said that the police arrested a 25-year-old man, Umar Hamisu for luring and raping an eight year-old girl in Lapai town.
