Gov Badaru commission­s food processing coy in Jigawa

Jigawa State Governor Mohammad Badaru Abubakar, yesterday, commission­ed a food processing company in Dutse, the state capital that was constructe­d at the cost of over N500 million.

The proprietor of the company, Jifatu Food Processing Company, Alhaji Sabitu Yahaya, said when the company reached its optimum capacity, it was expected that it would employ over 120 people.

According to him, the food processing company was designed to process 13 different types of cereal foods ranging from spaghetti, Oat, Semovita and host of others.

Regarding sourcing of raw materials, Yahaya explained that before the company was test run for production, they had entered into agreement with some farmers for the provision of farm produce needed for the company’s production.

“We commission­ed 5,600 farmers before commission­ing the company. We are expecting to produce 13 different types of food cereals: Spaghetti, maize flour, sorghum, peas, Tsakin Masara, Tsakin Dawa, Garin Danwake and host of others.

“We are expecting to produce 35 tonnes of the processed food at the peak of the company’s production. We have already employed 50 women and we are expecting to employ 122 workers when the company reaches its full production capacity. We have invested over N500 million to establish the company.”

While commission­ing the company, Governor Badaru stated that his administra­tion would continue to support the establishm­ent of companies in the states saying, “we have to start looking inward as government in order to find alternativ­e source of having an independen­t economy in the state.”
