Plateau Utd tumble in AITEO Cup

ew champions of the Nigeria Profession­al Football League, Plateau United suffered a shock deficit yesterday in the first leg, quarter final matches of this year’s Aiteo Cup competitio­n against Niger Tornadoes in Lokoja. They league champions were beaten 2-0.

Tornadoes have made the Confluence Stadium Lokoja their adopted home for the past two seasons a fortress, as they have never lost in Lokoja in all 38 home matches over two seasons of their stay in the Confluence State.

In Nnewi-Ozubulu, FC IfeanyiUba­h move closer to semi-final with a 3-0 bashing of another Nigeria Profession­al League side ABS.

The South-West derby involving NNL side, Osun United of Oshogbo and NPFL club, Sunshine Stars of Akure played in Oshogbo, ended 1-0 in favour of the Oshogbo team.

The boys from the State of the Living Spring have surprised not a few persons by reaching this stage.

The other quarter-final clash between top Nigeria Premier League side Akwa United and non-league side Katsina United Feeders in Uyo has been moved to Saturday, following a special request by the Katsina Feeders’ management.

In the women’s version, Bayelsa Queens Nasarawa Amazons at the Nembe Stadium ended 1-0 in favour of the Bayelsa team.

The explosive South-South derby in Itam between Ibom Angels and Pelican Stars was won by Ibom Angels won who defeated their foes 1-0.

Champions Rivers United ended their clash with Edo Queens 0-0 at the Yakubu Gown Stadium, while Confluence Queens, who turned back Sure Babes 3-0 in the Round of 16 in Lokoja, crashed 0-1 to host Abia Angels in Umuahia.
