Nigerian stars preach peace, mentor youth on career in Plateau State
To boost lasting peace and enhance peaceful coexistence in Plateau State, including developing the capacity of youths in varied career, a partnership programme and memorial lecture was organized for the youth recently.
The programme tagged ‘Jos Chillin Project’ was powered by Mees Palace and Buckwyld Media, in collaboration with the state government to grow the entertainment sector and reposition it as a tourism hub.
It aims to promote peace, unity, harmony and pride in the cultural identity of the people through the use of Nigerian stars, colourful messaging, entertainment and grassroots youth engagement.
The two day programme featured Memorial lecture on Jos crisis, skills acquisition seminar, music concert, technical sessions and division of youths into specific groups for career development training.
Top of the artistes and celebrities from various fields include 2Face Idibia, Dr Panam Percy Paul, Ice Prince, Dj Jimmy Jatt, Peter Rufai, Alhaji Dansuki Nakande among others. They spoke on various topics in music, media/events hosting, sports, talent management, choreography and tourism.
The Governor, Mr Simon Lalong expressed his determination to continue promoting peaceful coexistence in the state as well as maintaining splendid working relationship with the youths.
Represented by the Director General, Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PPBA), Mr Joseph Langmang, the Governor urged young people to work together to build permanent peace and unity on the Plateau.
“I remain resolute to the conflict resolution, to security of lives and properties, and equally making sure everyone in the state thrive irrespective of tribe, religion and political affiliation,” he said.
In his remarks, the former Minister of State, Information and Communication, Alhaji Ibrahim Nakande, pleaded with the youth to make judicious use of social media to preach peace rather than inciting hate speech against one another or the government.
