- By Latifat Opoola

Food business is a very lucrative one because food is one of the essentials of life, the reason why Bilkisu Kabir Dauda ventured into snacks business called Biikaaydee’s Kitchen.

She started the business in 2016 but before that during her service year in 2015, Fatima had acquired skills on making samosas and spring rolls.

“One day, my father tasted my samosas and said they were awesome, and he jokingly said I should start selling them. My sister took it seriously and pushed me to start, and that was how I started,” she said.

Fatima who started the business with N8,000, serves small chops for events and offices for lunch, and hopes to expand shortly.

Although still modest, Fatima said the business takes most of her time and it took a lot of practice and perseverance for her to be a professional.

“The business is quite profitable, I have a turn-over of some thousands of Naira now, and I advertise my products online using WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. And I don’t have a particular age group that eats small chops, they are for everyone,” she said.

The employer of two said her major challenge is the erratic power supply as snacks need to be refrigerated always.

She added: “When making or taking orders for a lot of snacks, one has to keep in mind the power supply factor.”

She advised youth seeking a job to find ways to acquire some skills and in turn use it to their advantage for their start-up, stressing that hard work pays.
