Erosion: Ecological fund sharing formula lopsided – Obiano

- From Emma Elekwa, Awka

Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has expressed regret over the sharing of the Federal Ecological Fund in parts of the country, saying it has not been in conformity with the number of erosion sites in the state.

He called on the Federal Government to declare state of emergency on Anambra State erosion challenge.

Speaking in a meeting with the team from the Ecological Fund Office, Office of the President, Abuja, in the governor’s lodge Amawbia, Obiano decried the daily shrinking of the state occasioned by active erosion sites numbering over 972.

He appealed to the federal government to work with the documents and recommendations of the inspection team, just as he urged the team to utilize aerial map to assist in their documentation, which he said, would give an in-depth view of all the erosion sites in the state.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Beautification and Ecology, Dr. Romanus Ejikeme, said the Ministry, in collaboration with the team from Abuja, has embarked on a week-long activities to ensure that all the erosion sites in the state were covered.

The Presidential headed by Engr. Onyeagba, said

the team had observed loss of lives and properties in some of the sites visited in view of the high records in erosion and flood menace in the state, promising that the state would be given a special treatment. Team Amechi
