CITY NEWS Man arrested over theft of generator radiator kept in police custody

- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Detectives attached to the Lagos police command have attested a 25-year-old man, Tobiloba Tajudeen, for allegedly stealing the radiator of a generator which was kept within the premises of the Isolo police station, Lagos.

At the time of the theft, the radiator, valued at about N280,000 when it was stolen, was said to be an exhibit in a case still under investigation, and was so kept in police custody pending the outcome of the investigation.

The suspect allegedly connived with a group of persons now at large to remove the exhibit from where it was kept. A police source said that the item was discovered missing the next day when those on duty were handing over to the next shift.

Upon the discovery, the Divisional Police Officer of the Isolo Division was said to have charged all those on duty to fish out the culprit.

Based on the directive, the policemen swung into action, and after days of discreet investigation, arrested Tajudeen.

At the conclusion of the investigation the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, ordered that the suspect be charged to court. He was then charged before an Isolo Chief magistrate’s court.

But Tajudeen denied knowing anything about the missing item. The presiding magistrate, Mr A.O. Ogbe, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties. The suspect was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition and the matter was adjourned till October 7, 2017.
