2019: N/East stakeholders to meet over Lamido’s presidential bid
Some stakeholders working for the presidential bid of a former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will soon meet to discuss the way forward.
The zonal stakeholders meeting, which would be organised by the Democratic Enlightenment Initiative (DEI), is scheduled to hold in Jalingo, Taraba State at a date to be announced soon.
DEI Administrative Secretary, Alhaji Adamu Shu’aibu, disclosed this in a statement in Bauchi, yesterday, saying that the meeting on Lamido’s presidential bid would be attended by NGOs, political pressure groups and other like-minds across the six states in the North East zone.
The statement explained that the meeting was expected to draw-up strategies of Lamido’s presidential electioneering campaign as it affected the zone, preparatory to the commencement of the 2019 electioneering campaigns.
According to the statement, Lamido was the most favoured presidential aspirant within the ranks and file of the PDP across the states of the federation and Abuja.
“We are also not unmindful of the fact that some political heavy weights, who hitherto pitched tent with the now ruling APC may stage a comeback to the fold of PDP in furtherance of their presidential ambition ahead of the 2019 elections,” it said.
Shu’aibu, therefore, appealed to the PDP hierarchy not to succumb to pressure of “money-bag politicians who may like to arm-twist them in the desperate bid to satisfy their whims and caprices.”
He described the former Jigawa State governor as “a versatile politician who, if given the mandate to steer the Nigerian ship, will positively impact on the lives of the generality of Nigerians.”
