APC women threaten revolt in C/River
Women leaders of the APC in Cross River State have threatened to revolt against the state and zonal leaders over alleged gender insensitivity and selective welfare assistance to them.
They stated this at a critical stakeholders’ meeting of the party convened by its National Vice Chairman for South-South, Ntufam Hilliard Eta,
The meeting was held in Calabar, over the weekend, to address increasing disaffection and differences officials.
Mrs Grace Obong, one of the leaders from Obubra Local Government Area of the state, who spoke at length on the issue, said even in the state leadership structure, there was only one woman and the situation was the same at the zonal level.
She said the women had been completely neglected and were only remembered when they were expected to mobilise other women.
“I am not afraid to let you know that if this gender insensitivity is amongst not addressed immediately, we shall not only boycott further elections, we shall go ahead to revolt to drive home our plight, marginalisation and deprivation in this party we all suffered to build,” she said.
However, the commissioner in charge of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sylvester Nsa, said it was wrong to say that many women were not carried along. He said he had a long list of widows and others who were on the commission’s payroll every month.
