26-yr-old woman arrested for stealing BlackBerry phone valued at N170,000

The police in Lagos have arrested a 26-year-old lady for allegedly stealing a BlackBerry phone worth about N170,000.

The suspect, identified as Temitayo Onanuga, was alleged to have stolen a Blackberry Passport 2 phone belonging to Oluwanisho­la Akintelure.

It was gathered that the suspect allegedly removed the phone from where it was kept in an office at Shitta roundabout, Surulere, Lagos.

Luck, however, ran against the suspect when she was spotted by one of the security men on duty. An eyewitness told the police that it was the guard who raised the alarm that led to her arrest.

The witness alleged that after the suspect removed the phone from where it was kept, she carefully tucked it into her handbag. She was then arrested as she was leaving the place.

For the alleged crime, the suspect was yesterday docked at a Surulere chief magistrate’s court in Lagos on a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergenat Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometimes in August this year.

Onanuga, however, pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mr. Aro Lambo, granted the accused N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum and ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed.

The magistrate also said the surety should provide evidence of tax payments, while his address should be verified.

The court adjourned the case until October 12, 2017 for mention.
