A 23-year-old woman, Mrs. Folashade Idoko, was yesterday arraigned on a count charge before an Ebute-Meta magistrate’s court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing her husband, 33-year-old Lawrence Idoko, to death at Aiyetoro, Ijanikin, Lagos.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant W. Hafsat, told the court that the incident happened on August 20, 2017 at about 11pm at No. 2, Ganiyu Akanni Close, Aiyetoro, Ijanikin Lagos.

Sgt Hafsat, said, “The suspect had in the past done grievous harm to the victim, but the victim kept it in mind believing all would be well. The autopsy result showed Lawrence died of haemorrhage, that he lost a lot of blood. He could not survive due to too much loss of blood.”

The couple’s landlord testified that the wife of the deceased had humiliated the husband many times, even in a beer parlour, where he said she stripped him naked.

“There was even a time she sliced her husband’s ear lobe with a broken bottle. She had attempted to kill the husband severally,” he stressed.

According to the Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Akpan Nseyo, “Folashade had a misunderstanding with her husband, Lawrence ldoko, that led to both parties fighting, and after sometimes, the suspect entered the kitchen, got a kitchen knife and stabbed the husband. She left the victim in a pool of blood for hours before neighbours noticed the incident.

“When I visited the scene, I saw a kitchen knife and a towel blood soaked on the floor. There were blood stains from the inner room to the living room down to the entrance door.”

The defendant, a mother of two boys - a three-year-old and a oneyear old - said she did not intend to harm the husband. She explained that there was a fight between them and while they were both dragging for a knife, it mistakenly fell and injured the husband.

Magistrate Miss K.A. Ayeri ordered that the accused be kept behind bars and adjourned the case until September 28, 2017 for hearing.
