250 golfers to battle at 57th Independence Golf tourney
At least, 250 golfers will participate at the 57th Independence Golf tournament scheduled to take place at the IBB Golf Course in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s Independence celebrations.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the tournament in Abuja on Tuesday, the chairman of the Organising Committee and ViceCaptain of the club, Oseni Ahmed said the main tournament will hold on Monday, 2nd October, 2017. He also disclosed that 25 golfers from Achimota Golf Club of Ghana will participate in the tournament.
“We are inviting players from Ghana and they should be arriving on Friday 29th September,” he said. “We will have a double match play on Saturday and single match play on Sunday ahead of the main tournament on Monday.”
Also speaking, the IBB Golf Club’s Secretary of Competitions Austine Nwachukwu said “we will play over 18 holes of stroke play that has to do with individual handicaps.” He said the categories for men will be 1-11, 12-19 and 20-28 while the ladies will have 1-18 and 19- 38 divisions, adding that prizes will be won in all categories.
On his part, the Captain of IBB Golf Club, Sunday Ameh said the event is a major item in the Club’s calendar, adding that “we are proud to be Nigerians and in our own little way as a club, we are putting the tournament together to celebrate our country.”
He said all players will wear green and white kits as a show of patriotism to Nigeria.
