Convert Adamawa poly to North-East University — Don
The Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Nasiru Idris, has called on the Adamawa State Government to convert Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, into a university.
In an interview with Daily Trust in Abuja, he suggested that the institution be called North-East University.
Professor Idris said the call for the setting up of the institution was a result of the recent suspension of all management degree programmes in all the universities of technology by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and that Federal University of Technology, Yola (FUTY) now Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola was also affected.
According to him, the suspension has deprived both ongoing and intending Adamawa State students the opportunity to study management courses which are very important components of the society especially in northern Nigeria.
Professor Idris said it will also be a milestone achievement for the government if the university became a reality as education is the backbone of every state or country.
On funding, the dean stated that the proposed institution can be public-private driven and the tuition might not be the same with that of Adamawa State University, Mubi.
He said the proposed institution could charge higher tuition fees as the practice in other parts of Africa.
