Bulus, Quadre whitewash Sen, Dermane at ITF Circuit

- By Orkula Shaagee

Nigeria’s Christopher Bulus, yesterday battered India’s Shreejit Sen 6-0, 6-0 to underlined his determination to cap his effort with the top prize at the ongoing 2017 ITF U-18 Circuit holding in Lome, Togo.

With the win, Bulus zoomed into the competition’s quarterfinals where he will confront Raphael Perot of France.

Bulus is still reeling from his 0-6, 1-6 annihilation by Eliakim Coulibaly in last weekend’s final, vented his anger on his opponents as yesterday’s win came after the first round triumph over Togo’s Kokou Ago, who was also at the receiving end of a 6-1, 6-1 bashing.

A win against his French opponent will likely see him set up another semi-final showdown with Delmas N’tcha of Benin Republic, who triumphed in their lastfour clash at the first leg of the point-earning tournament which served off in Cotonou, Benin and will terminate this weekend at the Togolese capital.

Coulibaly is not featuring in the tournament, and following the shock first round exit of top seed, Daarshan Suresh of Malaysia, Bulus or N’tcha is favoured for the title.

In the girls’ singles, Oyinlomo Barakat Quadre is also fired up to end her campaign on a great note as she re-enacted her old form to breeze past Chakira Dermane of Togo 6-0, 6-0 to set up a quarter-final confrontation with fourth seed, Sophia Biolay of France.

The fifth-seeded Quadre stole the show on her debut at the tournament last year by winning all the three legs, but has failed to go beyond the quarter-finals in the two previous legs.

Michael Ayoola and Mariam Alli-Balogun bowed out of the tournament after losing to Togolese and Finnish opponents.
