Osinbajo: We’re stronger together

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has told Nigerians that the country is stronger together.

The vice president, while wishing the citizenry happy 57th national independence anniversary, stated yesterday via Twitter that “Together, we will prevail.”

Also at the 57th Independence Day Anniversary Interdenominational Church Service held yesterday at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, Osinbajo had prayed for the unity and prosperity of Nigeria.

“Our country is at a point where Christians must stand up to do what the scripture has commanded us to do. We have to rise up and teach our nation the virtues Jesus has taught us: loving our neighbours, praying for our enemies and uniting the body,” Osinbajo said.

Earlier at the service themed “National Unity in the Bond of Peace and Love”, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon had said that Nigeria had fought for her unity,

The former leader expressed optimism that with the prayers and help of citizens, the country’s unity would continue.

Gowon was joined on the podium by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former head of the Interim National Government Chief Ernest Shonekan.

In his sermon titled Godly Leadership”, Rev Yakubu Turaki suggested that a national conference be convened to settle the question of restructuring in view of the current tension in the land.

He appealed to religious leaders and traditional rulers as well as all ethnic nationalities to go beyond attacking one another to creating a new common ground that would guide a national life of peace and unity.

The event was attended by House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Chief Juatice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress John OdigieOyegun, members of the National Assembly, members of the armed forces, members of the Diplomatic Corps and other goverñment functionaries.
