Nigeria @ 57: FCT ALGON calls for peaceful coexistence
As the country celebrates its 57th independence anniversary, chairmen of the six area councils of the FCT have called on residents of the territory to live in peace with one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political differences.
The chairman of Area Council, Mr. K. Shazin, who Kwali Joseph is also chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in the FCT made the call while felicitating with residents of the territory.
He congratulated the entire residents of the territory on the occasion, which he said calls for sober reflection.
Shazin said the oneness and continued peaceful coexistence of Nigeria remains non-negotiable, adding that the nation has come of age and required selfless sacrifice by all and sundry to strengthen institutions for overall development.
“We are calling on the entire people of the FCT to live in peace and harmony with each other irrespective of their ethic, religious and party differences,” he said.
He there solicited for the support and cooperation of the residents of the territory, saying the six area councils are determined to provide dividends of democracy despite the challenge of lack of funds.
He added that the area councils are also making efforts to ensure that the backlog of staff salaries and arrears are paid, and solicited for the support and cooperation of staff of the area councils in discharging their duties diligently.
