PDP, APDA, DPC ask FG to sustain democracy

- By Saawua Terzungwe & Abbas Jimoh

The People Democratic Party (PDP), Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) and the Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) have asked the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to sustain democracy, unity and peace of the nation.

The PDP in a statement yesterday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, on the occasion of Nigeria’s 57th anniversary, asked government and citizens, to consider the pillars that brought Nigeria together and work for the growth and stability of the nation.

Similarly, APDA in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, appealed to government to deploy inclusive policies that would promote cohesion and national integration.

The party called on the political class and all contending interest groups to eschew violence and acts capable of impinging the corporate existence of the country.

Similarly, DPC in a statement by its National Chairman, Rev. Olusegun Peters, lamented that Nigeria was still “groping in the dark” despite the abundant human and natural resources at its disposal.

”It is sad that since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office, he has not executed any meaningful peopleoriented project. Nigerians are frustrated, impoverished and angry and demand progressive government with a milk of human kindness.

“To achieve this, DPC calls for devolution of power to states and local governments across the country which will facilitate development at the second and third tiers of governments,” he said.

“DPC further demands for the reduction of the salary paid to senators and House of Representatives members. The fat salary and allowances paid to members of the National Assembly have made them to be out of touch with the populace and influenced their call for independent candidacy to enable them come back to office. This must stop in the interest of the nation and our emerging democracy,” he said.
