The Yobe State Executive Council has approved N795 million to provide medical and laboratory equipment to three general hospitals and five secondary schools which were recently upgraded and expanded by the Governor Ibrahim Gaidam administration.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Mala Musti, who briefed newsmen after the state council meeting in Damaturu yesterday, said N679 million was approved for the procurement of medical equipment for the general hospitals in Gaidam, Gashu’a and Potiskum.
“You may recall that N1.8 billion was approved by council in June 2016 for the rehabilitation and expansion of the three general hospitals. Now in today’s sitting, the council approved the supply, installation, commissioning, and user training of assorted medical equipment to the three general hospitals to enable them provide much-needed services to the people,” Musti said.
The commissioner said the government had also approved N97 million for the purchase of laboratory equipment, tools, chemicals, and reagents to GSS Yunusari, GSS Gwio-Kura, GSS Nangere, GSS Fika and GGSS Nguru.
“These schools have since been rehabilitated. Three weeks ago, government awarded over N400 million for the purchase of furniture for dormitories, classrooms, and staff quarters to them. Now we are following up with providing the laboratory equipment they need for subjects like physics, biology and chemistry,” Musti said.
