Gunmen kidnap musician, shoot wife in Edo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on have kidnapped a popular musician and social critic, Ambassador Osayomore Joseph, in Egor Local Government of Edo State.

Daily Trust gathered that Joseph performed at a function in the afternoon of Tuesday in Benin before he was kidnapped later at night.

It was also learnt that Osayomore was kidnapped at about 10pm at Orovie village, off Upper Ekewan road in Egor local government area while returning to Benin metropolis with his wife.

It was further gathered that his wife whose name could not be ascertaine­d was shot in the head during the operation.

The kidnap of Osayomore is coming barely a week (September 24) when the managing director of Ogba Zoo and Nature Park, Dr. Andy Ehanire was kidnapped while three policemen manning the park were killed in the process.

The Parish Priest of St. Benedict Church, Iddo 2, Okpella of Auchi Diocese, Fr. Lawrence Adorolo was also kidnapped along Auchi-Okene highway on September 27.

While the Priest was released two days later, Ekhanire is yet to regain his freedom.

Confirming the kidnap, Edo State recent Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Moses Nkombe, said the police received report of the abduction at about 11pm and the police would do everything possible to secure his release.

He added that security operatives have since been drafted to black spots across the state.
