- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Detectives from the Lagos command have arrested a 45-year-old man, Jamiu Abioro, for allegedly stealing his employer’s equipment valued at N40 million.

The suspect allegedly connived with some persons still at large to steal the equipment belonging to Dudu Production Company. The equipment comprised eight tripod stands, eight spiced leg dolly, track, four-channel vision mixer, crane control head, crane pole, kino flo light and a DVD/VCR recorder.

The company’s management was said to have discovered one morning that its production equipment had been carted away by some unknown persons. But Abioro, its employee who was understood to be in possession of the keys to the store where the items were kept, claimed ignorance of the theft.

However, after the matter was reported to the police and was investigated, the Lagos State police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, directed that the suspect be charged to court.

Consequently, the suspect was last Thursday brought before an Ikeja magistrate’s court in Lagos charged with stealing his employer’s equipment.

Abioro, a resident of Alagbado, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused committed the offences on September 15, 2017 at the Omole area of Ojodu, Lagos.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate, Mrs J.O. Awope, said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State government.

The case was adjourned until October 16, 2017 for mention.
