FCT police to rid city of criminals

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commission­er of Police Sadiq Abubakar Bello said the police command will soon commence raids of black spots and criminal hide-outs in the capital city.

He made this known yesterday during a courtesy visit to the head office of Media Trust Limited, publishers of the Daily Trust titles.

Bello said the FCT police under his command would carry out surprise raids of black spots and known hideouts in the satellite towns and Abuja metropolis to rid the city of criminals.

He said during the raids police would cordon and search such hideouts to recover exhibits that could be useful during prosecutio­n of suspected criminals.

Bello added that plain clothes policemen would also be deployed to carry out surveillan­ce and intelligen­ce in areas that are known as hideouts for criminals.

He also said police would use the strategy of visibility policing to deter criminals and reassure citizens of safety and security.

The police residents of commitment chief reassured the command’s to reinvigora­ted activities within the FCT, adding that members of the public are important in securing the territory.

He said police would address issues like bag snatching at traffic intersecti­ons, handset snatching, armed robbery and other crimes.

He also sought support and cooperatio­n of the media and residents in raising awareness of the activities of the police and changing the negative perception of the force.
