- By Hamisu Muhammad & Latifat Opoola

The Federal Government will soon open a lab for the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan in order to address issues in the economy and ensure proper implementation of the plan, the Coordinator, ERGP Unit, Mr Folarin Alayande, has said.

Speaking at the on-going Nigerian Economic Summit 2017 in Abuja, Tuesday, Alayande said the lab which will be hosting some policy makers will bring together the operators, players and regulators in one room and solve various problems that affect different industries and evaluate the implementation of the ERGP.

“We need to have people from FIRS, CBN, Ministry of Finance etc. This is supposed to be a crossagency lab and the idea is that all participants in the room will try to sort out the problem right there and not to go out of that room and leave the problem.

“Most likely what we are going to get at the end is like a national action plan but this time around it is going to be driven primarily by the private sector. The idea is to have people that can make decision and commitments.”

He also explained that government will make sure it did something differently with quantifiable targets.

Meanwhile, the implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) is now entering a new phase, with global commendations trailing it, according to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udo Udoma.

Speaking at the 23rd National Economic Summit in Abuja yesterday, he said the annual budgets are aligned with the ERGP hence government spending is driven by the plan.

He further stated that a special implementation unit to ensure effective delivery of the plan has been set up with staff engagement to drive the process.
